AI Startup Axiom Solves 4 Previously Unsolved Math Problems

A new artificial intelligence startup called Axiom has developed an advanced AI system—often referred to as AxiomProver—that claims to have solved four previously unsolved mathematical problems. These problems spanned complex areas like algebraic geometry and number theory and had resisted human solutions for years.

The AI didn’t just guess answers—it generated full proofs, some of which have been verified and posted publicly (e.g., on arXiv). In at least one case, the AI independently devised a novel proof for a conjecture that had puzzled experts for five years.

Axiom’s approach combines large language models with a proprietary reasoning engine that can construct and check proofs, making it more than a typical generative AI. Mathematicians see this as a sign that AI reasoning is advancing rapidly and could become a valuable tool in mathematical research and related fields like cybersecurity.
