ROOST: A New Nonprofit for Online Child Safety

Roblox, Discord, OpenAI, and Google have formed a new non-profit organization called ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools) to develop and provide free, open-source safety tools, particularly focusing on child safety in the evolving digital landscape.

ROOST aims to create scalable and interoperable safety infrastructure, including tools to detect, review, and report child sexual abuse material (CSAM), addressing the urgent need for accessible safety solutions in the age of generative AI.

This initiative is driven by the increasing concerns about online child safety, particularly given the prevalence of children on platforms like Roblox and the potential misuse of AI technologies; the partners hope to alleviate the burden on smaller organizations by offering readily available, cost-effective safety tools.
